Schillerstrom
Roger Schillerstrom has now spent half of his life in Chicago, the first half having belonged to Iowa. He grew up in Des Moines in the 60's and marveled at the skill and influence of Frank Miller, the Register's resident editorial cartoonist. Roger graduated from Cornell College in 1977 and worked a few years in Jefferson before leaving the state to attend art school in Chicago and follow in Miller's wake.
Two years of art training later and he began freelancing for a weekly business publication called Crain's Chicago Business. With a bit of talk and luck, Roger added several sister publications to his client list. He joined the staff of Crain Communications in 1989. Today, Roger works for seven Crain publications: Crain's Chicago Business, Business Insurance, Modern Healthcare, InvestmentNews, Pensions & Investments, BtoB, and Modern Physician. Most of the publications are weekly. He also does freelance editorial work with Golfweek, SuperNews (for golf course superintendents), and Fra Noi (an Italian American community newspaper). There are also regular illustration jobs thrown in during his spare time.
Roger discovered the Wacom electronic tablet in 1991 and has been drawing his work on-screen ever since.
